The Adventure has begun.

semi-overcast 40 °F

Well after much anticipation our Swiss adventure has finally begun. We left Palm Springs on Wednesday (11/12) for our first trip together to search for housing. Our trip did not begin without some initial stress however. When we arrived at the PSP airport we encountered a United Airline computer outage. The airline had to resort to the old fashioned way of issuing boarding passes and luggage tags........hand written. As you can imagine, the scene was loosely managed chaos and although we arrived almost 1.5 hours prior to our departure, we barely made the flight to LAX for the first leg of our journey to Zurich. Not only that, the United agent suggested that she only check our luggage from PSP to LAX, and that we reclaim our luggage there, and re-check it with Swiss Airlines in LA. Well Di would hear nothing of that, and insisted, in a nice way of course, that as a 1K traveler she didn't think she wanted to schlepp our 4 suitcases (200 lbs.) of luggage from Terminal 8 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal in LA. And boy was she right!! We did, however, have to check in with the Swiss airline at LAX to get our boarding pass, which was really no biggie since we were there four hours prior to our departure time.

After our initial hiccup in PSP, the remainder of the trip was relatively smooth sailing. Once we arrived in Zurich, we had to take the train from Zurich to Fribourg (via Bern). No problem there, accept that Jim fell trying to get our luggage into the train, but no luckily no damage to the body. We then had six minutes to make our connection in Bern, which without our 200 lbs and four suitcases would have been a piece of cake, but we made it with a few minutes to spare.

We are now safely in our hotel in Fribourg nestled conveniently in the city center, close to the train station, and the Harmonic offices. Our search for Swiss digs begin in earnest on Saturday. Stay tuned for more of our exciting adventure.
